Animals

A huge brush-tailed possum just ran across the pergola and jumped onto the roof. Seriously, that possum makes more racket than a herd of elephants! Thump thump thump, then a side trip to look funny at the cats who then respond with hisses, roars and the sort of language that would make your ears curl. The Siamese is particularly inventive, though I’ve no idea what she’d do if she ever met a possum face to face. She’d probably channel Bucky Katt.

Last night I woke up with a Siamese trying to snuggle between my knees. A hot summer night – and she still has to be near me!

I saw the first opossum tracks of the season in the snow this morning, out back in the paddock. Apparently they are out of hibernation now. I’m sure you know that the opossum is North America’s only marsupial…

Are they as big as Australian possums? Ours can be pretty hefty, particularly in suburbia where they munch through people’s vegie gardens and fruit crops.
