I never had a nickname that stuck. My first name doesn’t really work when shortened, my surname isn’t any easier. My brothers seemed to miss out on nicknames, too.
The usual Australian thing for blokes is to put the suffix “ie” on their surnames, or “za” on their first names. For example, Barry is Bazza, Warren is Wazza, and Gary is Gazza. Shane Warne is Warnie.
