Children’s emotions

16 Jul

Just wanted to bookmark this piece by Catherine Keenan.

Read it this morning and it has stuck with me all morning. After Gracie saw a disturbing thing while on a walk, she had a disturbed night. Catherine writes:

it was the first time I’d seen her wounded by anxiety; the first puncture in her glorious belief in the world’s unfettered bounty. I worry it was her first step along the labyrinthine paths of adult doubt and hesitation.

Beautifully put. And yes, my DD, my Little Princess, has a tendency to also run around and tell strangers that she’s going to a show or Circus Oz or the superb playground, and her glorious overstuffed bling lockers (aka jewellery boxes) are testament to her belief that life should be lived to the full, preferably while dressed in pink, with sequins and as much jewellery as you can cram on your limbs and around your neck. Tiaras are not optional 🙂
